Drink Your Kale!

Sounds kind of disgusting, doesn't it? Try it!

For those of you who know me, you know I am no health nut. We watched "Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead" last week (if you haven't seen it, I recommend it, surprisingly good documentary). Anyway I decided to try one of the recipes he used for juicing. I found the juicer that Mattie had bought years ago, stuffed in a dusty corner of the garage, cleaned it up, and went to it.

Mean Green (makes about 4 cups juice)

6 kale leaves
2 Granny Smith apples (peeled or skin on, whatever your juicer will handle.
4 stalks of celery
1 large cucumber (skin on)
1/2 lemon (peeled unless you really like lemon)
1 inch piece of fresh ginger (peeling it seems to make the ginger taste a little stronger)

Run it all through the juicer, give the juice a little stir and drink up.

I promise you will be surprised at the taste. Even an 8 year old is drinking it (albeit in small amounts, but she is getting fresh kale in her diet!)

I've tried it with a whole peeled lemon and liked it but the other two testers said the lemon was too strong. Seems that 1/2 of a peeled lemon is the most popular, 1/2 of an unpeeled lemon is almost overwhelming.

Been drinking it daily for the last four days and can't get enough of it, yet.
